It’s Aerowaves Spring Forward time again! Having already attended the pan-European festival of contemporary dance in Umeå, Sweden (2014) and Barcelon, Spain (2015), I am off again to the 2016 festival in Pilsen, Czechia, 22–24 April. And I get to say “Czechia”! (The new short name for the Czech Republic – still awaiting approval by the UN, but already voted in by the Czech parliament.)
Again, I’ll be writing and tutoring writing at the festival’s Springback Academy, along with regulars Donald Hutera (UK) and Oonagh Duckworth (Belgium), and joined by Nina Vangeli (Czechia). We’ll be mentoring by 10 Springback writers from across Europe: Nika Arhar, Ka Bradley, Lucia Fernandez, Ola Fraitova, Riika Laasko, Stella Mastorosteriou, Lena Megyeri, Jelena Mihelčić, Róisín O’Brien and Francesca Pinder. We also welcome back 8 writers from The Class of 2015: Clàudia Brufau, Gaia Clotilde Chernetich, Anna Chirescu, Eline Cire, Luke Aaron Forbes, Niko Hallikainen, Anastasio Koukoutas and Marie Pons.
Here’s what festival director John Ashford says about the festival:
Spring Forward is Aerowaves’ annual contemporary dance festival, showcasing work by some of the best emerging choreographers in Europe. This year, the festival takes place in Pilsen, the Czech Republic, 22-24 April, but you can WATCH all the action from the comfort of your own home via the Live Stream.
