Dance writing workshop at Siobhan Davies Dance

I’ll be leading a writing workshop at Siobhan Davies Dance, London, on Saturday 4 July 2015, 12-2pm. From the website:

As part of the Next Choreography Festival writer Sanjoy Roy leads a review-writing workshop which, rather than focusing on what to write about and how to judge it, considers where we write from and who we write to. It looks at dance writing as creation as well as representation, including practical writing tasks using video clips.

The workshop is based on the idea of writing as communication. The first half will be ideas-based – a look at the relation between dance and writing, and at what a review is, who it is for, and the roles of the writer. The second half will focus on practical matters: preparing for a review, looking/seeing/experiencing, using words, and writing/revising.

You do not need to have dance/choreography training to take part, but you should have some experience of watching dance and be interested in writing about dance. Writing experience a definite plus! Please bring a notepad, a pen and an enquiring mind. Designed for (but not limited to) people aged 14–21 years.

Advance booking essential, to reserve a place contact: info@siobhandavies.com / 020 7091 9650
